Capitals vs Rangers Picks and Prediction – 4/23/2024

The Washington Capitals limp into Game 2 of their Eastern Conference first round matchup with the New York Rangers. Washington was abused in game one with a three goal loss on Sunday. The Washington offense has been bad all season averaging just 2.63 goals on 26.5 shots and scored only one in game one of the set. Charlie Lindgren struggled immensely for Washington in game one of this series with a .871 save percentage of giving up four goals on 31 shots in the game period Martin Fehervary provided the only real spark for Washington scoring the lone goal of the game. The Capitals did get assists from two other players to round out the scoring.

The New York Rangers come into game two up by one game following their blowout win over the weekend. Offensively New York has been top tier all season averaging nearly 3.3 goals per game on just over 31 shots and have scored four goals in each of their last two victories. Defensively New York has done the work as well allowing just 2.76 goals and have given up one total goal during their last two games.

Igor Shesterkin was phenomenal in the net for New York in game one with a .952 save percentage of giving up just one goal and 21 shots. Jimmy Vesey came up big for the New York offense with one goal and one assist in nearly 12 minutes on the ice. Three other Rangers found the net as well, while Barclay Goodrow chipped in two assists in the game.
