Islanders vs Hurricanes Picks and Prediction – 4/20/2024

The New York Islanders kick off the NHL playoffs Saturday afternoon with a round one matchup in Carolina against the Carolina Hurricanes. New York has won 39 games on the year after finishing the season winners of four of the last five. The New York offense carried the team this season scoring 2.99 goals on just over 30 shots per game. Ilya Sorokin did just enough in the net for New York in their last outing with a .909 save percentage after giving up just four goals on 44 shots in the game. Simon Holmstrom, Samuel Bolduc, and Brock Nelson led the way for the New York offense with one goal and one assist each. New York got more production from the team as two other players pumped in one goal each.

The Carolina Hurricanes open the playoffs as one of the best teams in hockey having won 52 games this season. Carolina averaged nearly 3.4 goals per game this season on 33.3 shots overall. Defensively the Hurricanes were top tier averaging 2.5 seven goals on just under 26 shots per game this season.

Spencer Martin struggled last game out for Carolina giving up six goals on 25 shots to boast a .760 save percentage in the loss. Teuvo Teravainen led the way for the Carolina offense with two goals on five shots and nearly 16 minutes on the ice. Jesperi Kotkaniemi chipped in heavily as well with one goal and one assist in the game.
