Magic vs Heat Picks and Prediction – 10/23/2024

In Wednesday night NBA action, the Orlando Magic will travel to the Kaseya Center to face the Miami Heat. For other NBA action see our NBA Predictions. The Magic have assembled a talented, young core and will be a force in the Eastern Conference for years to come. Orlando ranked second in the league in defensive efficiency and limited opponents to 108.5 points per game. 

All-Star F Paolo Banchero led the Magic in scoring (22.5 ppg) and assists (5.4 apg). Versatile F Franz Wagner averaged 19.7 points per game and is a perfect compliment to Banchero. Orlando signed Kentavious Caldwell-Pope in the offseason for his defense and experience. 

The Miami Heat have reached the NBA Finals in two of the previous five seasons, but enter the 2024-2025 campaign with some notable question marks. The Heat finished last year ranked fifth in the league in defensive efficiency and are looking to become more dynamic on the offensive end. All-Star G/F Jimmy Butler (20.8 ppg) has shown the ability to carry Miami offensively, but his health remains an issue. 

A second consecutive first round playoff exit could force the Heat to move on from Butler and turn the keys to franchise over to All-Star C Bam Adebayo (19.3 ppg). Tyler Herro has shown to be a capable scorer (20.8 ppg), but needs to do a better job taking care of the basketball.

Miami G Josh Richardson is dealing with left heel inflammation and will not suit up for the season opener. These are two of the elite defensive teams and neither want to push the pace.
