The Memphis Grizzlies visit the Utah Jazz on Wednesday in both teams' opening game of the 2024-25 NBA season. The Memphis Grizzlies finished 27-55 last season and were 13th in the Western Conference, missing the postseason. Memphis did not make any additions to its roster last season except for drafting Zach Edey, Jaylen Wells, and Cam Spencer. Memphis is led by point guard Ja Morant, who is back healthy, Marcus Smart, Desmond Bane, Jaren Jackson Jr., and rookie Zach Edey. The starting five is very strong but the depth could be a factor for Memphis. Brandon Clark, Santi Aldana, and Scotty Pippen Jr will be the first three off the bench on most nights. Morant was suspended and injured much of last season and the Grizzlies cannot afford to lose their star this season.

The Utah Jazz were 31-52 and 12th in the Western Conference last season. The Jazz did not take part in the postseason. Utah added Drew Eubanks, Patty Mills, and Svi Mykhailiuk to the roster during the off-season while losing Kris Dunn and Omer Yurtseven. The Jazz drafted Cody Williams, Isaiah Collier, and Kyle Filipowski.

Utah will rely once again on Collin Sexton, Lauri Markkanen, John Collins, and Jordan Clarkson. The Jazz will look to Taylor Hendrix and Keyonte George to add board strength and strong defense in the backcourt. Patty Mills, Cody Williams, Walker Kessler, and Clarkson will be the first players off the bench. Utah will struggle during a long 82-game schedule.
