The Tigers will counter with twenty-nine year old righty Jack Flaherty (5-9 4.84 ERA) in the series opener. Detroit has dropped Flaherty’s previous four starts and he has surrendered 21 runs over his last 18 innings. 

Detroit OF Kerry Carpenter (hamstring) is currently on the 10-day injured list and will miss this series. Through 90 games, Tampa Bay ranks 10th in OPS and 7th in runs scored.
