The Memorial Day MLB schedule will get started with a battle between the San Francisco Giants and the Detroit Tigers from Comerica Park. On Sunday, AL Cy Young Award winner Tarik Skubal (5-2) went the distance for Detroit and struck out 13 batters during a 5-0 home victory versus Cleveland. Zach McKinstry started the scoring for the Tigers (34-20) with a two-run blast in the fourth inning. 

Detroit skipper A.J. Hinch will give the nod to right-hander Keider Montero (1-1 5.28 ERA) in the series opener. Last time out, Montero (5.2 IP) gave up eight hits and five runs during an 11-4 road loss against St. Louis.

San Francisco SP Justin Verlander has been placed on the 15-day injured list with right pectoral soreness. Through 53 games, San Francisco ranks 21st in OPS and 11th in runs scored.
