Padres vs Nationals Picks and Prediction – 7/25/2024

The Thursday MLB schedule will get underway with a matinee between the San Diego Padres and the Washington Nationals from the nation’s capital. Be ready for the baseball season with all of our MLB picks. The Padres (54-50) are riding a four-game winning streak and have moved into a tie with St. Louis for the final NL Wild Card spot. Last night, OF Jackson Merrill collected four hits and scored three runs to spark San Diego to a 12-3 road triumph against Washington. 

Twenty-eight year old righty Dylan Cease (9-8 3.76 ERA) will take the mound for the Padres in this matchup. In his last two starts, Cease (13 IP) has not allowed a run and has struck out 21 batters.

The Washington Nationals have split their previous ten games and are six games back in the race for the final NL Wild Card spot. On Wednesday, Washington SP Mitchell Parker (5-6) was roughed up for six runs in three innings and took the loss. 1B Juan Yepez connected on a two-run shot in the opening frames for the Nationals (47-55), who fell to 23-26 at home. 

Washington manager Dave Martinez will turn to veteran left-hander Patrick Corbin (2-9 5.35 ERA) on Thursday. Last time out, Corbin (6 IP) allowed one run and fanned six batters during an 8-5 home victory versus Cincinnati.
