New York signed thirty-six year old slugger J.D. Martinez a few weeks prior to Opening Day to provide much needed lineup protection for Pete Alonso. J.D. is a six-time All-Star and clubbed 33 home runs a season ago. Martinez has racked up nine hits over his last seven games and crushed a grand slam during last night’s 8-4 home victory.
