Mets vs Pirates Picks and Prediction – 7/8/2024

The Monday MLB schedule will get underway with a matinee between the New York Mets and the Pittsburgh Pirates from PNC Park. Be ready for the baseball season with all of our MLB predictions. The Mets (44-44) are four games above .500 on the road and two games back in the race for the final NL Wild Card spot. On Sunday, SS Francisco Lindor’s third hit scored Harrison Bader and Ben Gamel to lift New York to a 3-2 road victory against Pittsburgh. 

Rookie right-hander Christian Scott (0-2 4.32 ERA) will make his seventh career major league start for the Mets. Through 33 plus innings, Scott has given up four home runs and struck out 27 batters while posting a solid 1.14 WHIP.

The Pittsburgh Pirates have dropped six of their previous ten games and are ten games off the pace in the NL Central Division standings. During yesterday’s home loss, Pittsburgh took a 2-1 lead in the eighth inning on a two-run single from Nick Gonzales. SP Luis Ortiz fired six shutout frames and did not factor in the decision for the Pirates (42-47), who fell to 21-24 at home. 

Pittsburgh manager Derek Shelton will give the nod to talented right-hander Mitch Keller (9-5 3.48 ERA) on Monday. Last time out, Keller (5 IP) was knocked around for nine hits and five runs during a 7-4 home loss versus St. Louis.
