Mets vs Marlins Prediction

The Mets and Marlins meet for the third game of their early-season series on Wednesday afternoon at loanDepot Park. The first pitch is set for 2:40 PM EST, with Clay Holmes (0-1, 3.86 ERA) going for New York against Connor Gillispie (0-1, 5.40 ERA) for Miami. The Mets took the opener 10-4 behind a big offensive day and are now 2-2, while Miami dropped to 3-2. Elevate your MLB game with our top-notch MLB picks.

New York bounced back from a tough road trip in Houston by lighting up the scoreboard in Miami. Pete Alonso drove in four runs in the win and Starling Marte went deep as the offense finally clicked. The Mets have now scored 15 runs over the last two games after managing just six over the first three.

Defensively, New York’s pitching has been strong with a team ERA of 2.38 and opponents hitting just .202. Holmes, though, struggled in his first start, walking four and lasting only 4.2 innings. Injuries are already stacking up with Francisco Lindor listed day-to-day and multiple outfielders on the IL. Despite that, the Mets’ bullpen has kept games close, and the strikeout numbers (35 Ks in 4 games) show the arms are doing enough to keep them in it.

Miami started the year strong with a series win over Pittsburgh but came back to earth in Monday’s loss to the Mets. Otto Lopez continues to be the early surprise of the season with a .400 average, two homers, and six RBIs. Dane Myers has also been steady at the plate, batting .400. The Marlins’ offense has collected 43 hits already and leads the series in total runs scored (20) across five games.

The Marlins’ pitching has been a mixed bag. Gillispie was hittable in his first outing, allowing four walks and a homer in five innings. The team ERA sits at 3.75, but the WHIP is a concerning 1.33. Miami’s bullpen hasn’t been reliable either, and with five relievers currently injured, depth is a problem. Defensive stats like opponent batting average (.209) are decent, but the 28 walks issued are too many this early in the season.

Mets vs Marlins Pick Analysis

New York’s arms have been more consistent, and the offense is heating up at the right time. Holmes should bounce back against a Marlins team that’s had bullpen issues and is giving up too many free passes. Even with some injury concerns, the Mets have more pop and sharper pitching. Final Score Prediction: Mets win 6-4.
