Dodgers vs Yankees Picks and Prediction – 10/31/2024

Game Five of the 2024 MLB World Series will take place on Wednesday night, when the Los Angeles Dodgers and the New York Yankees square off from the Bronx. The Dodgers (3-1) have won four of their first seven playoff road games and are one victory away from their seventh World Series title. Last night, Los Angeles 1B Freddie Freeman became the first player in MLB history to hit a home run in six consecutive World Series games during an 11-4 loss. 

Twenty-nine year old righty Jack Flaherty (13-7 3.17 ERA) will head to the hill for the Dodgers on Wednesday. In the series opener, Flaherty (5.1 IP) allowed two runs and struck out six batters during a 6-3 home victory.  

The New York Yankees have won four of their first six playoff home games and are looking to become the first team to rally from a 3-0 World Series deficit. In Game Four, SS Anthony Volpe delivered a third inning grand slam to give New York a 5-2 advantage. 2B Gleyber Torres added a three-run shot in the eighth inning to seal the victory for the Yankees.  

New York manager Aaron Boone will counter with 2023 American League Cy Young Award winner Gerrit Cole (8-5 3.41 ERA) in Game Five. New York has won three of Cole’s first four postseason starts and he has allowed eight runs (7 ER) across 22 plus frames.  

Los Angeles DH Shohei Ohtani is still bothered by a shoulder injury and is expected to play in this game. Through 162 games, Los Angeles ranked 1st in OPS and 2nd in runs scored.
