Astros vs Pirates Picks and Prediction – 6/4/2025

In Wednesday afternoon MLB interleague action, the Houston Astros and the Pittsburgh Pirates will wrap up their series from PNC Park. Be ready for the baseball season with all of our MLB predictions. The Astros (33-27) have won seven of their previous ten games and are tied with Seattle for first place in the AL West Division. Last night, SP Lance McCullers Jr. (1-1) fanned seven batters and lasted six innings to lead Houston to a 3-0 road victory against Pittsburgh. 

Rookie right-hander Ryan Gusto (3-2 4.62 ERA) will make his seventh career major league start for the Astros. Control has been an issue for Gusto, who has walked 19 batters through 39 innings of work. 

The Pittsburgh Pirates are four games below .500 at home and are trying to climb out of the NL Central Division cellar. During Tuesday’s home loss, Pittsburgh batters were limited to four hits and went down swinging nine times. NL Rookie of the Year Paul Skenes (4-6) allowed one run in eight innings and was the hard luck loser for the Pirates (22-39).

Twenty-five year old righty Mike Burrows (0-1 8.64 ERA) is in search of his first major league victory for the Pirates. In his second career start, Burrows gave up five runs and recorded ten outs during a 9-6 road victory against Arizona.  

Houston OF Yordan Alvarez’s fractured hand is not fully healed and he will be shut down from hitting. Through 60 games, Houston ranks 13th in OPS and 21st in runs scored.
