Tigers vs Guardians Picks and Prediction – 7/25/2024

The Tigers (50-52) have won seven of their last ten contests and are 6.5 games back in the race for the final AL Wild Card spot. Last night, OF Matt Vierling’s first inning solo shot was all the offense Detroit could generate during a 2-1 road loss against Cleveland. 

Detroit manager A.J. Hinch has yet to name a starting pitcher for the series finale. The Tigers could opt to use Kenta Maeda (2-5 7.07 ERA) as a starter or for bulk work. The Detroit pitching staff ranks in the middle of the pack with a 3.95 ERA.

The Cleveland Guardians have won 33 of their first 47 home games and hold a five-game lead over Minnesota for the top spot in the AL Central Division. During Wednesday’s home victory, Steven Kwan and Josh Naylor provided RBI singles to supply the Cleveland offense. SP Tanner Bibee allowed two hits in five innings and did not factor in the decision for the Guardians (61-40).

Twenty-four year old righty Gavin Williams (0-2 4.50 ERA) will make his fifth start of the year for the Guardians. Last time out, Williams (3.2 IP) gave up six hits and three runs during a 7-0 home loss versus San Diego.
