The Colorado Rockies play the second game of a three-game series on the road Saturday versus the Tampa Bay Rays. Colorado is not expected to contend for the National League West title or a wild card spot, but the Rockies have more depth on the bench and should play better defense than last season. The additions of Kyle Farmer and Tyler Freeman give the Rockies more choices as reserves. Colorado has a stronger starting rotation this season. The starting rotation will be Ryan Feltner, Kyle Freeland, Austin Gomber, Antonio Senzatela, who will start on Saturday, and German Marquez. These five are stronger than last season after replacing Cal Quantrill and Dakota Hudson. Feltner was Colorado's best pitcher last season, and Gomber had his best season in 2024. 

The biggest question mark for Tampa Bay entering the 2025 MLB season is in playing its 82 home games at Steinbrenner Field, but several other questions remain, including the lineup, which was one of the Majors’ worst in 2024. The off-season additions of Danny Johnson and Ha-Seong Kim have helped the lineup. Jonny DeLuca being the regular center fielder also gives Tampa Bay better production at the plate as well on the field. 

However, the real strength for Tampa Bay lies on the pitching mound. Tampa Bay has plenty of depth on the mound, but injuries have already taken a toll. Ace Shane McClanahan has a nerve issue and was not the opening day starter on Friday. In the absence of McClanahan, the starting rotation will be Ryan Pepiot, Drew Rasmussen, Taj Bradley, Shane Baz, and Zack Littell. 

Tampa Bay will win its second game of the regular season on Saturday when hosting the Colorado Rockies, but the play here is OVER.
