Reds vs Rockies Picks and Prediction – 6/5/2024

The Cincinnati Reds, currently fifth in the NL Central, have had a roller-coaster season. Despite struggles, they managed a win against the Chicago Cubs in the most recent game, snapping a two-game losing streak. Offensively, Elly De La Cruz has been a bright spot with nine home runs. However, the Reds' overall batting performance ranks low in the league, placing 29th with a .220 average. The on-base percentage (.303) and slugging percentage (.359) also reflect the team's offensive difficulties. 

The Reds are sitting 15th in ERA (3.94) and 12th in WHIP (1.25). Pitching has been a relative strength, and Montas will need to continue this trend to keep Cincinnati in the game. Injuries have been a concern for the Reds, with key players like Emilio Pagán and Christian Encarnacion-Strand sidelined. Despite these setbacks, Cincinnati's bullpen and rotation have managed to maintain a respectable performance, highlighted by Hunter Greene's 70.2 innings pitched and a 1.16 WHIP. 

The Colorado Rockies, last in the NL West, have had plenty of challenges this season. Recently, they lost two straight to the Dodgers but managed a win before that, showing flashes of potential. Ryan McMahon has been a standout performer with a .284 batting average and 14 home runs. The Rockies' offense, while inconsistent, ranks 10th in batting average (.247) but struggles in power, ranking 26th in home runs (49).

Colorado’s on-base percentage (.309) and slugging percentage (.383) are slightly better than Cincinnati's. The Rockies are last in ERA (5.18) and WHIP (1.52). Ty Blach will need to deliver a strong performance to counteract these deficiencies. Injuries have also plagued the Rockies, with key pitchers like Justin Lawrence and Jake Bird on the injured list.
