White Sox vs Cubs Picks and Prediction – 5/17/2025

Twenty-five year old righty Sean Burke (2-4 4.15 ERA) will take the mound for the White Sox in this matchup. In his last start, Burke (4 IP) walked five batters and allowed one run during a 4-2 home victory versus Miami. 

The Chicago Cubs have split their previous ten games and hold a 1.5 game lead over St. Louis for the top spot in the NL Central Division. During Friday’s home victory, Chicago OF Pete Crow-Armstrong continued his recent torrid play with four hits and six RBIs. 2B Nico Hoerner added a pair of hits and scored three runs for the Cubs (26-19), who improved to 13-10 at home.  

Chicago skipper Craig Counsell will turn to veteran left-hander Matthew Boyd (3-2 2.78 ERA) on Saturday. Last time out, Boyd (6 IP) gave up two runs and fanned eight batters during a 6-2 road loss against New York. 

Ian Happ has been placed on the 10-day injured list with a left oblique strain and will not play in this series. Through 45 games, the White Sox rank 30th in OPS and 28th in runs scored.
