The New York Mets have won 14 of their first 18 home games and hold a 1.5 game lead over Philadelphia for first place in the NL East Division. During Saturday’s home loss, New York batters went 1-for-10 with runners in scoring position and struck out 12 times. 3B Brett Baty homered twice and drove in five runs for the Mets, who fell to 25-15 on the year. 

Twenty-eight year old righty Griffin Canning (5-1 2.50 ERA) has blossomed in his first season in New York. The Mets have won Canning’s previous five starts and he has given up just three runs over his last 21 frames. 

New York SP Sean Manaea (oblique) played catch from 120 feet on Friday and will throw off a mound later this month. Through 40 games, Chicago ranks 3rd in OPS and 1st in runs scored.
