The Boston Red Sox play the second game of a four-game series on the road Friday versus the Seattle Mariners. Boston finished last season 78-84 and was last in the American League East. Boston was 23 games behind first place Baltimore in the final standings. The Red Sox were 39-42 on the road last season and had a run differential of -4. The Boston Red Sox are expected to have a starting lineup of Jarren Duran leading off followed by Rafael Devers, Trevor Story, Triston Casas, Masataka Yoshida, Tyler O’Neill, Enmanuel Valdez, Wilyer Abreu and Connor Wong. The Red Sox have several new faces in the lineup and also on the bench. Boston's starting rotation will likely include Bryan Bello, Nick Pivetta, Kutter Crawford, Garrett Whitlock and Tanner Houck. Kenley Jansen and Chris Martin will share closing duties in the bullpen to start the season. 

The Seattle Mariners finished the regular season last year 88-74 which was second in the American League West, two games behind both Houston and Texas. Seattle is once again expected to be strong at the plate with J.P. Crawford, Jorge Rodriguez, Jorge Polanco, Mitch Garver and Cal Raleigh expected to do the most damage to opposing pitchers. Ty France is also expected to have a strong season while the Mariners hope that Dominic Canzone will have a breakout season at the plate. Josh Rojas will hold down third base and Luke Raley will be an excellent contact hitter.
