Red Sox vs Mariners Picks and Prediction – 3/29/2024

The Boston Red Sox will be on the road in game 1 of the MLB season out west in Seattle against the Seattle Mariners. The Red Sox come into the season after finishing 6 games below .500 a year ago after winning 2 of the last 3 games overall. Masataka Yoshida came up huge for Boston all year having led the team with a .289 batting average overall. Rafael Devers provided the pop leading the team 33 home runs and 100 RBIs on the year. After trading away former ace Chris Sale Boston will hand the ball to Brayan Bello to open the season. Bello was extremely mediocre a year ago finishing with twelve wins overall to go along with 11 losses. Bello did have a 4.24 ERA and struck out 132 batters overall. Bello struggled immensely in September however losing his final three games after allowing 16 runs on 21 hits in only 13 total innings.

The Seattle Mariners look to rebound heavily from a year ago after finishing with 88 wins overall, but a late season collapse cost them a postseason berth. Seattle did win three of their last four games of the year but lost six of the last 10 to cost themselves a trip into the playoffs. Luis Castillo will take the mound Thursday night for Seattle after leading the team with fourteen wins and a 3.34 ERA. Castillo was also a top strikeout pitcher in the league compiling 219 total strikeouts across 33 outings.

Julio Rodriguez is expected to again lead Seattle this season after leading the team last season with a .275 batting average and hit a team leading 32 home runs and drove in 100 and three RBI's. Ty France will be expected to pick up a ton of slack this season after TeOscar Hernandez and Eugenio Suarez left the Mariners this winter. France carried a .250 batting average and hit twelve home runs a year ago. JP Crawford also be a big veteran presence this season after a .266 batting average in 19 home runs last year.
