AL East Division foes will square off on Sunday afternoon, when the Baltimore Orioles take on the Tampa Bay Rays from Steinbrenner Field. Last night, Baltimore batters went 2-for-11 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base during a 4-2 road loss against Tampa Bay. 

Twenty-seven year old left-hander Trevor Rogers (2-1 1.53 ERA) has provided a much needed boost to the Baltimore rotation. In six starts, Rogers (35.1 IP) has allowed just one long ball and sports a minuscule 0.82 WHIP.

The Tampa Bay Rays are five games above .500 at home and are 5.5 games out of first place in the tightly contested division standings. During Saturday’s home victory, Tampa Bay evened the score in the eighth inning on a Chandler Simpson RBI single. Pete Fairbanks gave up a run but managed to notch his 16th save for the Rays, who improved to 52-47 overall. 

Tampa Bay skipper Kevin Cash will give the nod to right-hander Ryan Pepiot (6-7 3.38 ERA) on Sunday. The Rays have dropped three of Pepiot’s previous four starts and he has given up 12 runs over his last 19 plus innings. 

Tampa Bay SP Shane McClanahan (triceps) made a rehab start with Triple-A Durham and is expected to rejoin the rotation next month. Through 97 games, Baltimore ranks 21st in OPS and 24th in runs scored. For the season, Tampa Bay ranks 9th in OPS and 7th in runs scored. Take the Orioles to win on the road.
