Diamondbacks vs Cardinals Picks and Prediction – 4/24/2024

The Wednesday MLB schedule will get underway with a matinee between the Arizona Diamondbacks and the St. Louis Cardinals from Busch Stadium. Be ready for the baseball season with all of our MLB predictions. The Diamondbacks (12-13) have split their last ten games and trail NL West Division leading Los Angeles by two games. Last night, DH Pavin Smith hit a grand slam and drove in a career-high six runs to power Arizona to a 14-1 road victory against St. Louis.  

Thirty-one year old southpaw Jordan Montgomery (1-0 1.50 ERA) will take the mound against his former team. In his first start, Montgomery (6 IP) allowed four hits and one run during a 17-1 road triumph against San Francisco. 

The St. Louis Cardinals have dropped seven of their last ten games and are sitting in the NL Central Division cellar. During Tuesday's home loss, C Wilson Contreras hit a first inning solo shot to give St. Louis the early edge. SP Steven Matz (1-2) was tagged for seven runs in four plus innings and took the loss for the Cardinals (10-14), who fell to 4-7 at home. 

The Cardinals will counter with veteran right-hander Kyle Gibson (1-2 5.04 ERA) in the series finale. Control has been an issue for Gibson, who has issued ten walks and surrendered five home runs through 25 innings of work.
