The DC Defenders travel to Tampa, FL on Sunday for a game with the Tampa Bay Vipers in a week 4 matchup in the XFL.  In their last game, the Defenders were defeated by the Los Angeles Wildcats by the score of 39-9.  DC quarterback Cardale Jones completed 13 of 26 passes for 103 yards without throwing a touchdown and throwing 4 interceptions.  Running back Nick Brossette led the Defenders in rushing with 75 yards and a touchdown on 8 carries in the game.  Khari Lee was the leading receiver for DC as he pulled in 3 catches for a total of 38 yards against LA.  The DC offense gained 290 yards on the day, but their defense allowed 334 yards in the game.

The Tampa Bay Vipers welcome the DC Defenders to town on Sunday after losing their last game to the Houston Roughnecks by the score of 34-27.  Quarterback Taylor Cornelius completed 16 of 31 passes for 193 yards, 1 touchdown and 1 interception.  Running back Quinton Flowers also completed 4 of 6 passes for 51 yards while also rushing 6 times for 29 yards and a touchdown.  Tampa Bay was led on the ground by Deveon Smith who carried the ball 15 times for 49 yards.  Jalen Tolliver was the leading receiver in the game for the Vipers as he caught 8 passes for 104 yards on the day.  The Vipers offense gained a total of 365 yards on the day while the defense allowed 417 yards.

The DC Defenders have scored an average of 22.3 points per game this season while allowing 19.3 points per game. The Defenders have gained a total of 319 yards per game while allowing 260 yards per game.  The strength of the DC offense is in their passing attack where they have gained 193 yards per game through the air, but it is also the weak part of their defense as they have allowed 185 yards per game. The Tampa Bay Vipers have scored 13 points per game, while allowing 24.6 points per game.  The Vipers have gained an average of 394.3 yards per game this season, while allowing 280.6 yards per game, but have been having trouble finding the end zone.  Tampa Bay’s passing attack has gained 202.6 yards per game, while their defense has allowed 154.3 yards per game.  Although the spread in this game is close, I believe that DC is the better team in this one and will expose a weak Tampa Bay defense.  Final score prediction, the DC Defenders win and cover ATS, 19-9.
