Sun at Mystics 9/29/19 - WNBA Finals Picks & Predictions

On Sunday, the Connecticut Sun visit the Washington Mystics to play Game 1 of their best of five WNAB Finals. 

The Sun reached the finals after sweeping the Los Angeles Sparks in the semifinals 3-0. Connecticut is ranked No. 2 in the league behind just Washington, but won the regular season series between the two 2-1. The Sun will rely on a suffocating defense. The key to Connecticut’s success will be the continued tough, physical play of Alyssa Thomas, who during these playoffs has been almost unstoppable whenever on the court.

Washington is the top seed but both teams are equally talented offensively with players able to score from inside or outside. The Mystics have the league’s top player overall in Elena Delle Donne, but the difference will be the substitutes. Washington has players such as Kristi Toliver, Emma Meesseman and Aerial Powers that can come off the bench and the talent does not take a step back. The Mystics defeated the Las Vegas Aces 3-1 in their semifinals series.

During the regular season, Jonquel Jones was the leading scorer and leader in rebounds for the Sun with averages of 14.6 points and 9.7 rebounds per game. Jasmine Thomas was the fourth leading scorer with an average of 11.1 points per game and leader in assists with an average of 5.4 per game. Four players for the Sun averaged double figures in scoring.

During the regular season Elena Della Donne was the leading scorer and rebounder for the Mystics with averages of 19.5 points and 8.3 rebounds per game. Kristi Toliver was the leader in assists with an average 6.0 per game and the second leading scorer with an average of 13.0 points per game. In all, five players averaged double-figures in scoring for the Mystics.
