Seattle Storm vs NY Liberty 7/25/20 - WNBA Picks & Predictions

Last Updated: 07/25/2020 at 11:44 AM ET

On Saturday July 25, the Seattle Storm will play the New York Liberty in the opening game of the 2020 WNBA abbreviated regular season schedule of 22 games. The Storm will have WNBA 2018 MVP and finals MVP Breanna Stewart back in the lineup. Stewart missed all of the 2019 season due to an injury. Sue Bird, the all-time assists leader in the WNBA, will also return for the Storm following a season-long injury in 2019 f.

Besides Stewart and Bird, who are two of the best overall veterans in the entire WNBA, Seattle will feature Natasha Howard who is the reigning WNBA Defensive Player of the Year as well as Jordin Canada, Alysha Clark and Jewell Loyd. Rookie Ezi Magbegor will debut for Seattle. In addition, the Storm added veterans Epiphanny Prince as well as Morgan Tuck during the offseason.

New York Liberty will have a new coaching staff and the No. 1 overall pick in the WNBA draft when the season tips off on Saturday. Walt Hopkins takes over as the head coach after three seasons as an assistant coach with the Minnesota Lynx. New York drafted Sabrina Ionescu with the first overall pick in the draft. The Liberty accumulated 6 of the first 26 picks in the draft after making trades the last two seasons.

New York also acquired on draft night via trades Megan Walker, Jocelyn Willoughby, Kylee Shook, Jazmine Jones and Leaonna Odom. Rookie Ionescu and the others acquired on draft day will join sharpshooters Kia Nurse, Rebecca Allen, Amanda Zahui B and Marine Johannes, which will give the Liberty the ability to stretch the floor and hurt opponents from the outside. Second-year player Asia Durr will miss the entire 2020 season for New York while recovering from covid-19 .

Familiar faces return for Seattle and new faces adorn the roster for New York in the opening game of the season for both on Saturday. Although the Liberty will have an extremely deep and talented lineup, a lack of experience will hurt to start the WNBA season. Seattle on the other hand will have veterans Breanna Stewart and Sue Bird back in the lineup as well as several top players returning from last season and will easily defeat New York on Saturday. Final Score Prediction, Seattle Storm wins and covers ATS 92-76.
