Liberty vs Sun Picks and Prediction – 8/24/2023

The New York Liberty continue a road trip Thursday night with a matchup in Connecticut against the Connecticut Sun. New York is the second best team in the WNBA with 25 wins through the first 32 games played after winning for the last five following the 22 point blowout over Phoenix. Offensively New York has been stellar this season averaging 88 points per game on 45.2% shooting from the floor, while the defense has been solid allowing just 80.4 points per game.

Breanna Stewart has shined for New York in her first year with the team leading the way averaging 22.6 points per game to go along with a team leading 9.1 rebounds. Betnijah Laney is averaging 11.9 points per game, while Jonquel Jones averages 11.8 points. Sabrina Ionescu is second on the team averaging 17 points per game and Courtney Vandersloot leads the team averaging 8 assists. 

The Connecticut Sun return home Thursday night 13 games above .500 following a six point win over Chicago that ended a three-game skid. Connecticut has been one of the better offensive teams in the WBC this season averaging nearly 83 points per game on 44.4% shooting, but their defense has been their biggest strength allowing just 78.7 points per game. The Connecticut defense faltered a bit during their recent losing streak allowing 92 points per game, while the offense averaged just 80 points both of which are off their averages.

DeWanna Bonner leads the way for the Connecticut offense this season averaging 17.8 points per game on 41.9% shooting from the floor. Brionna Jones is second on the team averaging 15.9 points, while Tiffany Hayes chips in 12.1 points per game. Alyssa Thomas averages a third best 15.7 points, while leading the way averaging 10 rebounds and 7.9 assists.
