On Sunday, the Dallas Wings will play the Atlanta Dream at the IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida in the opening game of the 2020 WNBA regular-season for both. Dallas finished in last place in the Western Conference in 2019 with an overall record of 10-24. To improve their overall record the Wings drafted Satou Sabally, Bella Alarie, and Tyasha Harris while also trading for Marina Mabrey, Katie Lou Samuelson and Astou Ndour.
The Wings lost Skylar Diggins-Smith, Azura Stevens, Glory Johnson, Tayler Hill, Kristine Anigwe, Karlie Samuelson, Kaela Davis, Imani McGee-Stafford, and Brooke McCarty-Williams through trades, waiving of players, free agency and retirement. Those returning from last season include Arike Ogunbowale, Isabelle Harrison, Megan Gustafson and Moriah Jefferson.
The Atlanta Dream added four players through the draft including Chennedy Carter, picked No. 4 overall as the Dream’s top pick. Via trades, the Dream acquired Courtney Williams and Kalani Brown. Atlanta also signed Shekinna Stricklen, Glory Johnson, Jaylyn Agnew, Erica McCall, Blake Dietrick and Alexis Jones through free agency.
Atlanta lost both Alex Bentley and Angel McCoughtry to free agency as the two signed with Las Vegas, while Renee Montgomery, Tiffany Hayes and Maite Cazorla are not returning to the team due to the coronavirus outbreak. Alaina Coates was waived. Elizabeth Williams and Monique Billings return from last year’s squad.
