Connecticut just defeated the Mystics 80-74 at home on Sunday, fuelled by Alyssa Thomas who dropped 14 points, 16 rebounds, 6 assists, and 3 steals. Connecticut center DeWanna Bonner was also huge for the Sun, she added 21 points and 3 assists to help secure the win.

The Sun are coming off an extremely impressive 2022 season, finishing with a 25-11 record and an eventual trip to the WNBA finals where they fell short against the Aces. Jonquel Jones was huge for Connecticut last year, leading the Sun with 14.6 points and 8.4 rebounds per game.

The Washington Mystics entered this season as the seventh ranked team in WNBA, they went on to win their first game and lose their second. In the 80-74 loss to the Sun on Sunday, Mystics center Shakira Austin was brilliant with 21 points and 11 rebounds. Elena Delle Donne also had a promising game for the Mystics, she finished the night with 19 points and 11 rebounds.

Last season the Washington Mystics had a very solid regular season record of 22-14, however they were bounced in the first round of the playoffs by the Seattle Storm. For the first time in franchise history the Mystics had the the first pick in the WNBA draft last year, however they traded down to the third pick where they drafted a future star in Shakira Austin.
