Rafael Nadal vs. Kwon Soon-woo 2/28/20 - Mexican Open Tennis Picks & Predictions

Rafael Nadal has made it into the quarterfinals of the 2020 ATP Mexican Open. At this stage of the tournament, Rafa is set to play against Kwon Soon-woo from South Korea.

Kwon Soon-woo enters this match having defeated Dusan Lajovic in straight sets. It was a close start to the match with Kwon winning the opening set via a tiebreaker but the South Korean superstar was outstanding during the second set which he won 6-0. During the win, Kwon Soon-woo impressed with his receiving as he won 54% of his receiving points which allowed him to break his opponent’s serve on 5 occasions. The serving was not as strong from Kwon Soon-woo as he lost 2 service games. This is expected to be a much tougher match for Kwon Soon-woo as he is playing against the number 1 seed.

Looking at Rafael Nadal, the Spanish superstar has been in outstanding touch throughout this tournament. Nadal enters this match having won his previous outing in straight sets. It was a dominant display by Rafa as he won 80% of his service games and 5 return games. Despite his early exit at the Australian Open, Rafael Nadal has looked in good touch in 2020 and the Spaniard seems to be playing with huge amounts of confidence. Nadal has won the Mexican Open twice in the past and the Spaniard looks well set to challenge for his third title at this event.

This will be the first time that Rafael Nadal and Kwon Soon-woo will be playing each other at an ATP event.

Kwon Soon-woo has looked impressive throughout this tournament but I don’t see him playing at the level where he can challenge Rafael Nadal. Rafa has looked in supreme form throughout this event and the Spaniard knows what it takes to win tournaments. There is a big gap in achievements and skills so I am going to pick Rafael Nadal to win this match in straight sets.
