We have reached the fourth round of the 2021 ATP French Open at Roland Garros in Paris. At this stage of the tournament, Rafael Nadal is set to play against Jannik Sinner from Italy.
Jannik Sinner enters this match having defeated Mikael Ymer in straight sets in the previous round. It was an impressive performance by Sinner who controlled the match with some strong receiving. During the win, Jannik Sinner won close to 50% of his receiving points which allowed him to break his opponent’s serve on 6 occasions. It has been a strong season for Jannik Sinner as he made the final of the Miami Open and the semifinals at the Barcelona Open. That being said, this is expected to be a tough match for Sinner as he is playing an all-time great in Rafael Nadal.
On the other side of the coin, Rafael Nadal enters this match following a straight sets win over Cameron Norrie in the previous round. The receiving was very strong from Rafa as he broke his opponent’s serve on 6 occasions. Nadal looks in outstanding form having won all of his matches at this tournament in straight sets. It was a slow start to the clay court season for Rafael Nadal but the Spaniard won the Italian Open prior to arriving in Paris and it seems like he is back to his best form. Nadal has an outstanding record at Roland Garros and will be hoping to win the French Open for the 14th time.
Rafael Nadal and Jannik Sinner have played each other twice in the past with Nadal winning on both occasions. The most recent match between these two players was earlier in the season at the Italian Open where Nadal won in straight sets.
Taking everything into consideration, I am going to pick Nadal to win this match. Nadal is simply the best player on clay and I see him being too strong for Sinner. I see Nadal winning in straight sets.
