Novak Djokovic is set to start his 2021 US Open campaign. Djokovic will start his tournament in the opening round against Holger Rune from Denmark.
Holger Rune is a young player on the ATP tour with this being his first major Grand Slam event. At the age of 18, Holger Rune has had a successful junior career where he has won tournaments such as the Junior French Open. This is a completely different level of tennis and Holger Rune must be able to perform at a much higher level if he wishes to compete. This is a very challenging opening round fixture for Holger Rune as he starts his tournament by playing against the number 1 seed in Novak Djokovic.
Looking at Novak Djokovic, this is a big tournament for the Serbian superstar as he has a chance of winning his 21st Grand Slam event and going past both Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal. Djokovic will also have the chance of winning all 4 Grand Slam events in a single season at this tournament. These are big accomplishments and I am expecting a fully determined Novak Djokovic to enter this event. Djokovic last played at Wimbledon where he won the tournament with relative comfort. It has been an exceptional few months for Novak Djokovic as he has not lost a singles tennis match since the Italian Open in May. Things are looking strong for Novak as he enters this tournament.
This will be the first time that Holger Rune and Novak Djokovic will be playing each other at an ATP tournament.
