Croatian tennis superstar Marin Cilic has made it into the third round of the 2020 Paris Masters in France. At this stage of the tournament, Marin Cilic is set to play against Ugo Humbert from France.
Marin Cilic received a walkover win in the previous round as his opponent withdrew from the match prior to it starting. It was a good result from the Croatian as he will be well rested as he enters this contest. Marin Cilic had a tough start to the tournament as he was drawn to face the number 14 seed, Felix Auger Aliassime, in the opening round. It was a close match with Marin Cilic winning the contest in 3 sets. During the win, Cilic impressed with his serving as he hit 14 aces which helped him win 10 out of his 12 service games. Marin Cilic is a hugely experienced and accomplished player, and he will be desperate to produce a strong result at this tournament.
On the other side of the coin, Ugo Humbert caused a massive upset in the previous round where he defeated Stefanos Tsitsipas in 3 sets. It was an extremely close match with all 3 sets being decided by tiebreakers. Ugo Humbert has been in terrific form as the Frenchman enters this match having recently won the European Open where he defeated the likes of Alex de Minaur and Pablo Carreño Busta. This is expected to be a challenging contest for Humbert but considering his recent form and his home-court advantage, Humbert will fancy his chances.
This will be the first time that Ugo Humbert and Marin Cilic will be playing each other at an ATP event.
Taking everything into consideration, I am going to pick Ugo Humbert to win this match. Marin Cilic is past his best and I see him struggling to maintain the intensity required to win big matches. Ugo Humbert has been in terrific form and I see the Frenchman being good enough to win on home soil.
