Serena Williams is set to compete for the 2020 US Open where she will hope to win her 24th Grand Slam title. Serena is set to begin her tournament against Kristie Ahn from the United States.
Kristie Ahn last played at the Cincinnati Masters where she was eliminated during the second round of qualifying. It was a poor outcome for Kristie Ahn as she would have enjoyed playing some more competitive tennis prior to the start of this event. Kristie Ahn had a strong US Open campaign last season where she made the 4th round of the tournament. That being said, things are expected to be much tougher for Ahn this time around as she is starting her campaign against an elite player and the number 3 seed.
On the other side of the coin, Serena Williams has had a modest few weeks leading into the tournament. Williams was eliminated during the second round of the Cincinnati Masters where she was defeated by Maria Sakkari. Serena also failed to make it past the quarterfinals of the Top Seed Open. At the age of 38, Serena Williams will feel that time is running out for her to win her elusive 24th Grand Slam title and with many top seeds missing, this will be her best chance. The draw is looking relatively easy for Serena Williams and she should make it far in this tournament if she can play to her ability.
This will be the first time that Serena Williams and Kristie Ahn will be playing each other at a WTA event.
Despite her recent form, I see Serena Williams winning this match. Kristie Ahn is not at the level where she can challenge Serena and I see there being a huge gap in ability and experience between the two players. With that in mind, I am predicting that Serena Williams wins this match in straight sets.
