Federico Delbonis vs. Rafael Nadal 4/14/21 - ATP Monte Carlo, Monaco Men Singles Picks & Predictions

Argentinian tennis player Federico Delbonis has made it into the second round of the 2021 ATP Monte Carlo Masters. At this stage of the tournament, Federico Delbonis is set to play against Rafael Nadal from Spain.

Rafael Nadal received a bye in the opening round due to his high seeding. It has been a while since Nadal last played with the Spaniard last featuring at the Australian Open which took place in February. The Australian Open was a modest tournament for Rafael Nadal with the Spanish superstar being eliminated in the quarterfinal stage by Stefanos Tsitsipas. Nadal is the number 3 seed at this tournament and will have high hopes as the ATP tour enters the clay season. The Monte Carlo Masters has always been a very strong tournament for Rafa as he has won the title 11 times and has only lost 5 matches since his first appearance at this event which was in 2003. Rafa is going to be tough to stop at Monte Carlo.

On the other side of the coin, Federico Delbonis enters this match having won his previous outing in straight sets. It was a good match for Delbonis with the Argentine player winning all of his service games and 3 return games. The serving was especially strong from Federico Delbonis as he won 77% of his service points. That being said, this is expected to be a very tough match for Federico Delbonis as he is playing against an elite player in Rafael Nadal.

Federico Delbonis and Rafael Nadal have played each other 4 times in the past with Nadal winning on all 4 occasions. The most recent match between these two players was in 2020 at the Australian Open where Nadal won in straight sets. Federico Delbonis is yet to win a set against Nadal.

Taking everything into account, I am going to pick Rafael Nadal to win this match. Nadal is far superior and has an outstanding record at this venue. I see Nadal being good enough to win this match in straight sets.
