Ukrainian tennis superstar Elina Svitolina has made it into the second round of the 2020 WTA Monterrey Open in Mexico. At this stage of the tournament, Elina Svitolina is set to play against Olga Govortsova from Belarus.
Olga Govortsova enters this match having won her previous outing in 3 sets. It was a tough start to the match for Govortsova as she lost the opening set but she fought back strongly to win the final 2 sets and the match. During the win, Olga Govortsova impressed with her receiving as she won close to 50% of her receiving points which allowed her to break her opponent’s serve on 5 occasions. This is expected to be a much tougher match for Olga Govortsova as she is playing against the number 1 seed.
On the other side of the coin, Elina Svitolina won her previous outing in straight sets as she beat Danka Kovinic. It was a strong display by Svitolina as she won all of her service games and 3 return games. The serving was especially strong from Svitolina as she hit 6 aces and won 74% of her service points. It has been a tough start to 2020 for Elina Svitolina but the Ukrainian superstar has proven over the past few seasons that she is an elite player. Svitolina has made semifinals of Grand Slam tournaments and she looks to be slowly returning to her best form.

Olga Govortsova has played well at this tournament but I don’t see her being at the level where she can compete with the elite players. Elina Svitolina looked impressive during the opening round and she seems to be playing at a level where she can compete with the top players in the world. There is a big difference in skill between the two players so I am going to pick Elina Svitolina to win this match in straight sets.
