Botic van de Zandschulp vs. Daniil Medvedev 9/8/21 - US Open Men Singles Picks & Predictions

Last Updated: 09/06/2021 at 5:45 PM ET

Russian tennis superstar Daniil Medvedev has made it into the quarterfinals at the 2021 ATP US Open in New York. At this stage of the tournament, Medvedev is set to play against Botic van de Zandschulp from the Netherlands.

Botic van de Zandschulp has had an outstanding tournament and has exceeded the expectations of many. Botic van de Zandschulp, having already defeated Casper Ruud earlier in the tournament, defeated Diego Schwartzman in the previous round. It was an epic performance by the Dutch player as he battled for 5 sets to eventually win the match. It was a very close contest but Botic van de Zandschulp won vital points in the final set which allowed him to run away with the match. This is expected to be a much tougher match as he is playing against the number 2 seed in Daniil Medvedev.

Looking at Daniil Medvedev, the Russian superstar has looked dominant throughout this tournament. Medvedev enters this match having defeated Dan Evans in straight sets in the previous round. During the win, Medvedev won 5 return games while getting his serve broken on only 1 occasion. It has been a strong few months for Daniil Medvedev as he had a strong campaign at Cincinnati and won the Canadian Open. The US Open has always been a strong tournament for Daniil Medvedev and he seems to be enjoying the conditions at Flushing Meadows. Medvedev will be desperate to win the US Open and considering his recent form, he is going to be tough to stop.

This will be the first time that Daniil Medvedev and Botic van de Zandschulp will be playing each other at an ATP tournament.

Taking all the information into consideration, I am going to pick Daniil Medvedev to win this match. Botic van de Zandschulp has had a supreme tournament but things will be much tougher against Medvedev. Daniil Medvedev should be good enough to win this match in straight sets.
