Brahmas vs Renegades Picks and Prediction – 3/29/2025

The San Antonio Brahmas open their 2025 UFL regular season with a visit to the Arlington Renegades on Saturday. San Antonio finished second in the XFL division last season 7-3. The Brahmas lost to Birmingham 25-0 in the inaugural UFL Championship on June 17. San Antonio's head coach is Wade Phillips and the Brahmas have several returnees from last season on the roster. Kellen Mond will start at quarterback for the Brahmas. The former Texas A&M standout will have one of the UFL’s best wide receivers in Jontre Kirklin, who last season had 56 receptions, 615 yards receiving, and three touchdowns. The top player for San Antonio on the defense will be linebacker Tavante Beckett. Last season, Beckett was in All-UFL selection and led the Brahmas in tackles with 67, and tackles for a loss with nine.

The Arlington Renegades look to bounce back from a disappointing first season in the UFL. Arlington was 3-7 last season and finished last in the XFL division. The head coach for Arlington is Bob Stopes, who was their head coach last season. In 18 seasons coaching the Oklahoma Sooners, Stoops won 191 games and the BCS National Championship in 2000.

The three key players this season for Arlington are all on the offensive side of the line of scrimmage. Quarterback Luis Perez quarterbacked the Renegades to the last XFL title before its merger with the USFL. Perez will have his top two targets back from last season. Tight end Sal Cannella caught 53 passes for 496 yards and six touchdowns. Wide receiver Tyler Vaughns caught 45 passes for 502 yards and three touchdowns last season.  

Although Arlington will have quarterback Luis Perez back and a pair of talented receivers, the San Antonio Brahmas will be too much on both sides of the line of scrimmage for the Renegades to keep pace in the first week of the season. San Antonio opens the season with the fourth-best odds to win the UFL title while Arlington is sixth. The Brahmas' tough defense against Arlington’s passing game will be the difference on Saturday.
