Wolfsburg did their duty on the first leg of the Bundesliga relegation playoffs against Holstein Kiel last week with a strong win at home. They will now look to hold on to that lead when they will be hosted by Holstein Kiel on Monday.
Holstein Kiel did not have much luck in the first leg of this match-up, as despite their efforts they eventually fell by 1-3 on the road. Their opponents took the lead at the 13th minute of the match, but Holstein Kiel managed to pull even at the 34th. However, Wolfsburg took the lead once again just six minutes later, and sealed the win with another goal at the 56th. Holstein Kiel were really good at home during the season (8-2-7), as they were the team with the fewest home losses in the Bundesliga 2. They now need a win by at least two goals in order to have hopes for promotion to the Bundesliga.
Wolfsburg were in the exact same position at the end of last season, but they won both legs of the relegation playoffs and stayed in the Bundesliga. This season they struggled a lot, and found themselves in the position to fight for survival once again. They did great to win at home by 1-3, but that goal they conceded will surely have them thinking. They were not at all good on the road throughout the whole season (3-7-7), where they scored just 13 goals, while conceding 23 in the process.
