Tottenham Hotspur hosts defending English Premier League champions Manchester City on Sunday in the opening match of the 2021 EPL campaign for both. Tottenham will play without Ryan Sessegnon, who is nursing a hamstring injury, while Argentine Cristian Romero, who was recently signed, is not likely to feature after playing in the Copa America tournament with Argentina. Harry Kane has returned late to the club but is expected to see action on Sunday for the Spurs. Hugo Lloris will be in goal for the Spurs and the backline for the Spurs will be Sergio Reguilon, Erie Dier, Davinson Sanchez and Serge Aurier.
Manchester City won the EPL title last season finishing 12 points clear of second-place Manchester United. Manchester City lost in the final of the Champions League to Chelsea in May and are coming off a 1-0 loss to Leicester City last week in the FA Community Shield. Gabriel Jesus, Kyle Walker, John Stones and Ederson are expected to see action on Sunday. Ederson will start in goal for Manchester City. Benjamin Mendy and Joao Cancelo will be two starters at fullback while Stones will join Ruben Dias as the center backs. Fernandinho will be at his starting position in midfield along with Bernardo Silva and Ilkay Gundogan. The Manchester City attack will be Ferran Torres flanked by Samuel Edozie and Riyad Mahrez. Jack Grealish, recently signed by Manchester City, will not play.
