Spain failed to contain Cristiano Ronaldo in the opening match of the World Cup, as the Portuguese striker scored a hattrick on them. It wasn’t a very bad result for Spain, as they got a point from their most difficult match of the group. They will now face their easiest opponent in Iran, where Spain will look for a comfortable win.
Iran managed to come out on top in the opener against Morocco, despite the fact that they didn’t actually deserve it. They were intentionally wasting time since the start of the second half. Even so, that tactic worked out for them as they were holding off Morocco through the entire match. Iran eventually scored a very lucky winning goal at the 5th minute of stoppage time. After a set piece from the left side, Morocco’s Bouhaddouz scored a very unlucky own goal.
Spain could not defeat Portugal despite scoring three goals in that match. They saw Portugal take the lead twice in the first half, courtesy of Cristiano Ronaldo who scored both goals by that point. However, Spain managed to overturn the lead in their favor with goals at the 55th and 58th minute. Even so, Cristiano Ronaldo said his final word at the 88th minute, when he pulled even for the final 3-3. It wasn’t a bad result for Spain, who will now look for nothing other than a win against Iran.
