The Seattle Sounders just can seem to get their season on track, as they have looked really uninspired so far in the season. The four-time US Open Cup winners will now look for a strong performance in the fourth round of the competition, where they will be hosted by USL side Sacramento Republic on Wednesday.
Sacramento Republic are coming into this match after a slim 0-1 win at home against the OC Blues, that was their fourth in their last five matches in all competitions (4-1-0). That includes wins against San Francisco City (1-3 home) and Reno (1-0 away) in the two previous rounds of the US Open Cup. Sacramento Republic are doing a great job in the Western Conference of the USL, where they are sitting at the 3rd spot with 24 points after 13 matches (7-3-3). They have been really tough at home so far (4-1-1) but have kept just two clean sheets in their seven matches in all competitions there.
The Seattle Sounders are coming off a really awful 0-2 loss on the road against Real Salt Lake. They were horrible in that match, and it was their third consecutive loss without even scoring a single goal. The Sounders are now tied with Colorado for the bottom spot of the Western Conference, with 8 points after 11 matches (2-7-2). Their away record is not better (1-4-1), with the Sounders failing to score in four of those matches. It is unclear if it’s injuries to key men or a lack of creativity, but Seattle are really suffering right now.
