San Jose Earthquakes vs. LA Galaxy 9/24/22 - Major League Soccer Picks & Predictions

Last Updated: 09/23/2022 at 8:09 PM ET

On Saturday, the San Jose Earthquakes host the LA Galaxy in a MLS Western Conference fixture. San Jose is 14th or last in the conference table at 7-10-14 on 31 points with a goal difference of -18. San Jose battled at home to a 1-1 draw with FC Dallas last Saturday. FC Dallas opened the scoring with a goal in the 16th minute but San Jose’s Jeremy Ebobisse scored an equalizer from the penalty spot in the 24th minute and no other goals were scored the rest of the way.

San Jose has lost only three matches at home this season with six wins and six draws. The Earthquakes have lost only two matches at home since opening day when losing to the New York Red Bulls. Jeremy Ebobisse is the leading goal scorer for San Jose with 16 and Crisitian Espinoza has scored six. Espinoza is the leader in assists with 11 and Jamiro Monteiro has six.

LA Galaxy is seventh in the conference table at 12-7-12 on 43 points with a goal difference of +4. LA Galaxy defeated the Colorado Rapids 4-1 back home last Saturday. Gaston Brugman scored a brace for LA with goals in the 22nd and 52nd minute. Also scoring for LA were Raheem Edwards in the 28th minute and Xavier ‘Chicharito’ Hernandez in the 31st minute.

LA Galaxy ended a winless run of four straight matches, that included three draws and one loss when defeating Colorado last Saturday. However, the Galaxy has not posted consecutive victories since early April when defeating Portland and LAFC. Chicharito is the leading goal scorer for LA Galaxy with 15, while Dejan Joveljic has scored 10. Julian Araujo and Ricard Puig are the leaders in assists with five each.

The LA Galaxy won its first road match versus San Jose in June of 2021 but has not won consecutive away matches in the MLS versus San Jose since 1997-98. However, LA is coming off a big win over Colorado at home and holds the seventh and final playoff spot but is equal on points with eighth place Real Salt Lake. A win on the road for LA has much more meaning than for last place San Jose. Final Score Prediction, LA Galaxy wins 3-1.
