Arsenal suffered a really bad defeat in the first leg of the Europa League round of 16 against Rennes on the road. They will now return home for the second leg on Thursday, and they will look to overturn a two-goal deficit in front of their home crowd.

Arsenal were not very bad in the first leg, and even took an early lead in that match. But Sokratis saw a second yellow card and was sent off before the first half was over, resulting in a big disadvantage for the Gunners. Rennes pulled even and went on to score two more goals to make this tie really tricky for the Gunners. Rennes reacted perfectly in the early goal they conceded in the first match. Yes, they did luck out when their opponents were left with ten men early in the match. But Rennes did great to seize the opportunity and actually got a really nice cushion ahead of the second leg. They will now try to sit on that cushion but shouldn’t be very comfortable against a really strong side.
