Portland Timbers at LAFC 3/10/19 - MLS Picks & Predictions

LAFC almost suffered a hiccup in their first match of the season but scored a late goal and came out on top. They will now remain at home for their upcoming match, where they will host the Portland Timbers on Sunday. Portland are coming off a really spectacular match against Colorado where they grabbed a point.

LAFC (1-0-0) are coming off a really balanced match at home against Sporting KC in the opener. Their opponents committed a ton of fouls in the first half and showed their intentions. They even took the lead at the 16th minute but also had six yellow cards. LAFC pulled even at the start of the second half with Rossi and Diomande scored a late goal deep in the stoppage time to win by 1-2. LAFC were really strong at home last season, losing just once (9-1-7). Portland (0-0-1) fought really hard in their own match but it was them who conceded a late goal. Their opponents took an early lead but were left with 10 men at just the 27th minute. Portland took the lead by the end of the first half but were equalized at the start of the second. Colorado scored an own goal at the 66th minute to give Portland the lead but then scored a regular goal at the 94th minute to pull even at 3-3. Portland should better improve their performance on the road, as last season they won just four of their 17 away matches (4-8-5).

The two teams met on three occasions last season, twice for the MLS and once in the US Open Cup quarter-finals (1-1-1). Both teams are prone to high-scoring matches and I wouldn’t be surprised if we saw a lot of goals on this one.
