It’s the Western Conference semi-finals on Thursday, when the Colorado Rapids will play host to the Portland Timbers. Colorado had an impressive season overall and rightfully claimed the top spot in the Western Conference. They are now up against a Portland side that made a spectacular second half in the regular season, and this is surely going to be a very exciting match.

The Colorado Rapids smashed LAFC by a massive 5-2 on Decision Day and the combination of the Seattle draw and the Kansas loss saw them sit at the top of the Western Conference with a 17-7-10 record, scoring 51 goals and conceding 35 in the process. Colorado were the hardest team to beat at home, where they only lost to Austin FC in their first home match of the season, and remained unbeaten in 16 matches ever since (9-1-7 total home record). They scored 31 goals at home, which was the 4th best home offense, and conceded just 14 in the process, which was the best home defense. They kept 7 clean sheets at home, they conceded 2+ goals on just 3 occasions, and scored in 15 of their 17. Moreover, they scored 2+ goals in 9 of their 17 home matches.

The Portland Timbers were tremendous in the months of September, October and November, having a 9-3-1 record and a couple of big winning streaks. On Decision Day they easily beat Austin FC by 3-0 and eventually settled at the 4th spot of the Western Conference with 55 points (17-13-4), scoring 56 and conceding 52 goals. They did have the 2nd best offense in the Conference, but also the 3rd worst defense. Portland were not very strong on the road overall (6-9-2), scoring 21 and conceding 30 goals. They were actually doing a poor job on the road until late August, but they won 5 of their last 7 away matches (5-2-0), losing only to the LA Galaxy and their upcoming opponents, Colorado.

Colorado remained unbeaten in two matches against Portland this season, playing for a 2-2 draw in Portland before a 2-0 home win. Colorado have been quite impressive as hosts against Portland over the years (7-2-4), scoring 2+ goals in each of the last 4 matches in this venue. Taking Colorado Team Total Over 1.5 (-110).
