San Jose are on a bad losing streak and are fighting to remain inside the playoff spots. They will need at least a draw when they will play host to Philadelphia on Wednesday. Philadelphia have been really solid throughout the entire season and are still fighting for the top spot.
Philadelphia Union (15-9-7) fought in their away match against the Red Bulls but conceded a goal in each half to lose by 0-2. They have not been in very bad shape lately, losing just two of their last seven matches (4-2-1). They are currently sitting at the 3rd spot of the Eastern Conference with 52 points, four ahead of DC United, two behind Atlanta and six behind New York City. Philadelphia have been feisty on the road so far in the season (5-7-3) but have lost four of their last five on the road (1-4-0).
San Jose (13-13-5) are coming off yet another loss on the road, this time by 1-3 against Atlanta United. They temporarily pulled even through an opponent own goal but were left with 10 men shortly after and conceded two late goals. They have lost each of their last three and six of their last eight matches. San Jose are now 7th in the Western Conference with 44 points, as many as Portland below them. They have been solid at home throughout the season (10-3-2), and are actually undefeated there in their last 13 matches in all competitions (11-0-2).
