Two teams that fought hard but were eventually eliminated in the round of 16 of the US Open Cup will now clash on Wednesday, when New England will host Philadelphia. New England have been struggling to get wins lately while Philadelphia have been quite solid overall.

New England (4-8-4) are coming off a couple of draws in the US Open Cup, where they did overcome the Red Bulls in the first match but fell against Orlando City in their most recent. New England have now won just one of their last five matches in all competitions but are undefeated in that span (1-0-4). They are sitting 11th in the East with 16 points, three behind the playoff spots. They have been hit or miss so far at home (3-4-1), failing to score in all their losses. Philadelphia (9-4-4) played for a goal-less draw against DC United in their last match, for the round of 32 of the US Open Cup, but DC United left them eliminated. Technically that was not a loss, so Philadelphia are now undefeated in their last four (2-0-2) and have lost just one of their last 11 matches in all competitions (6-1-4). They are still sitting at the top of the Eastern Conference with 31 points, and they have a pretty decent 3-2-2 record on the road this season.

This will be the second match of the season between the two, after Philadelphia destroyed New England by 1-6 at home. They have now won each of the last four and have lost just once in the last ten matches against New England (7-1-2). Philly have been great in this venue over the years (4-3-3) and they can escape with at least a point from this match.
