Two clubs in Ligue 1, the top-flight French league, that have yet to post a point on the board during the 2020-21 season face off on Wednesday as Paris Saint-Germain hosts Metz at Parc de Princes. PSG opened its campaign with losses to both Lens and Marseille. PSG lost to Marseille 1-0 with the excellent play during the match overshadowed by a brawl in the final minutes. Tensions boiled and the referee issued five red cards including three to PSG.
Since the fracas on the pitch Sunday night, Neymar, who was one of the players issued a red card for PSG, has accused Alvaro Gonzalez, a defender for Marseille of making a racist comment. Nonetheless, PSG lost and has lost each of its last three matches across all competitions including the final of the Champions League against Bayern Munich. PSG will be without Neymar, Kurzawa and Paredes due to red cards.
Metz last 1-0 in each of its first two matches to Monaco and Lillie, two clubs that are both chasing qualification in Europe. Metz played well on the road against Lillie before losing by the minimum and it was the first loss in league play away from their home pitch since the start of 2020. Les Grenats were able to survive relegation by just 11 points last season and although they have started slow this campaign should finish somewhere in the middle of the pack.
Metz has lost nine straight to PSG including a 2-0 loss when the two met last year and has not beaten PSG since the 2005-06 campaign. Metz will be without Manuel Cabit who is recovering from a car accident and Kevin N’Doram continues to suffer from an Achilles injury. Metz has not yet scored through its first two fixtures in Ligue 1.
Although defending Ligue 1 champions PSG will be without Neymar as well as two other regular players, the club is expected to welcome back Maurco Icardi, Keylor Navas, Kylian Mbappe and Marquinhos, who all missed the match against Marseille. All four are regulars and represent strength both up front and on the backline. Metz has lost each of its last nine head-to-head with PSG and this will make it an even 10 following another loss on Wednesday, but the play here is OVER, as PSG will pressure the lesser talented back line and goalkeeper of Metz and score early and often. Final Score Prediction, Paris Saint-Germain wins 3-0
