Two teams that will fight for the qualification from Group E of the MLS IS BACK Tournament will lock horns on Wednesday, when FC Cincinnati will clash against the NY Red Bulls. Both teams lost to Columbus Crew and they both beat Atlanta United, so this is a massive clash in the final match.
FC Cincinnati (1-1-0) had some good luck in their last match, where they clashed against Atlanta United. Their opponents saw an early red card, which allowed FC Cincinnati to pile on the pressure in the second half. They scored the only goal of the match at the 76th minute to win by 1-0. That puts them at the 3rd spot of the group with 3 points, as many as the Red Bulls. A draw is not enough for them, as they will need a win in order to secure a top-two finish. However, they could go on as one of the best 3rd-placed teams with a draw here.
The NY Red Bulls (1-1-0) were terrible in their match against Columbus, as they failed to record a single shot on target. Their opponents scored a goal in each half and forced them to a justified 0-2 loss. But they did beat Atlanta United in the first match, so they are now sitting 2nd with three points. Even a draw would be enough to settle at the 2nd spot and qualify immediately. However, a loss could potentially drop them to the bottom of the group.
This is a do-or-die for both teams, as a loss by any of them combined with an Atlanta win over Columbus could have serious implications. A draw would be an excellent result for the Red Bulls, who will capture the 2nd spot and move on to the next round. They have looked much better than FC Cincinnati so far in the season, and they even beat them by 2-3 before the break. However, since they can even progress with a draw, I would go with the alternative option of the Under 3 goals here.
