Columbus Crew suffered quite an unexpected elimination from the US Open Cup against Chicago. They will now have to get their act back together, as they have a dangerous match coming up. They will play host to the NY Red Bulls on Saturday, who are coming off a massive win in the US Open Cup.
Columbus Crew (7-3-5) were engaged in a pretty spectacular match in the 4th round of the US Open Cup. After a 1-1 draw in the regular time, both teams scored in the extra time to send the match to the penalty shootout. The two teams attempted a whopping 11 penalties each in order to find a winner, that was Chicago. Columbus have yet to lose in 90 minutes since April 15th (4-0-5). They are now sitting at the 3rd spot of the Eastern Conference with 26 points, four ahead of the Red Bulls and three behind Conference leaders Atlanta United. They have been quite strong at home so far (5-1-2) but have conceded multiple goals on four occasions.
The NY Red Bulls (7-4-1) were up against NY rivals NYCFC in the 4th round of the US Open Cup. However, just like last season they destroyed their opponents, this time by 0-4. The Red Bulls really needed to return to positive results after two unsuccessful tries. They are now sitting at the 4th spot of the Eastern Conference with 22 points, four behind their upcoming opponents who have played three more matches. The Red Bulls have also been quite solid on the road so far (3-3-0) but have failed to keep a single clean sheet. At least they have scored multiple goals on four occasions. They will come here with a really important injury concern, as key goalkeeper Luis Robles is doubtful due to an injury.
