Two teams that are sitting in the exact opposite sides of the playoff table in the Eastern Conference will clash against one another on Sunday, when New England will host New York City. New England are barely clinging inside the playoff spots, while New York City need just one point in their last two matches to mathematically seal the top spot.
New York City (17-5-10) are coming off a tremendous performance at home against Atlanta United, blasting them by a strong 1-4. They have been in spectacular form lately, going undefeated in their last nine matches (7-0-2). New York City are still riding at the top of the Eastern Conference with 61 points, six points ahead of Philadelphia. They also have the best away record in the Conference (6-4-5), losing just two of their last six (3-2-1).
New England (10-10-12) came back from a two-goal deficit to seal a 2-2 draw on the road against Portland last week. That was their third consecutive draw, but they are now win-less in their last five (0-1-4). New England are still sitting at the 7th spot of the Eastern Conference with 42 points, four behind Toronto. But Chicago are now four points behind and Montreal are five points behind. New England will have to make use of home advantage here (7-5-4), where they have lost just once in their last ten.
